5 Household Necessities Every College Girl Needs

After having lived outside my parents house for 5 and a half years, one and a half of those years being by myself in my own apartment, I've had a bit of time to think this particular post through. A lot of times when you move into your first apartment, whether it be with roommates or alone, people tell you, "You need this!" or "You seriously can't live without this!" Sometimes, they're right. Other times, I think, "Why on earth would I need a full sized vacuum in an apartment that is 80% laminate floor?"

But what I have to share with you all are 5 college household necessities that I literally use on a daily/weekly basis. I seriously can't live without these items, and if you haven't tried them out, you definitely should.

Slow Cooker

I love my slow cooker. Seriously. I love slow cookers so much that I have two. Okay, so the real reason I have two slow cookers is because I originally got a 4 quart one when I lived with roommates. I recently purchased a 2 quart one (under $15!) and it has literally been the best decision.

My main reason for loving slow cookers is that they're a one pot meal, low maintenance, and don't dirty up a million dishes in your house. I love that I can just dump all the ingredients in a pot, leave for class all day, and come home to a completely effortless dinner. Even if you aren't great at cooking, you should try out a slow cooker. It will literally change your life.

Keurig Coffee Maker

I mentioned my love for Keurigs in this Caramel Macchiato recipe, but I just want to shout it from the rooftops again. Keurigs are perfect for the "on-the-go" woman.

Not only do you not have to have coffee filters, but you can brew directly into the cup you're drinking out of! Talk about ditching the mess. Plus, if you're a girl who likes to brew a carafe of coffee, check out the new brewers from Keurig! You can brew single serve and carafes.

I have an iron. I have an ironing board. But nothing beats having a steamer to quickly knock out wrinkles without having to wait for either 20 minutes in the dryer or for an iron to heat up. Not to mention having to wait for the iron to cool down to put away.

This nifty travel steamer (Under 25!) has been a Godsend. I take it with me on trips, use it when my clothes are wrinkly, and it quickly knocks out all the wrinkles. Easily one of the best purchases I've made.

Swiffer Wet Jet

I've had this nifty little household item for years. After moving from a house that was basically all tile to an apartment that is basically all laminate floor, I use my Swiffer Wet Jet on a weekly basis. Not only does the cleaning solution smell fantastic, it's a great way to clean the floor without having to fill a bucket with bleach + water and wring out a mop. I just dispose of the Swiffer sheet and the mess is gone!

I'm honestly convinced that the Swiffer Wet Jet is one of the best ways to keep your house clean.

Handheld Vacuum

This is one of my newer purchases. The only room in my apartment with carpet is my bedroom. It's where I've set up Queen Bee's litter box, food and she knows how to track it all over the place. Everywhere else in the apartment, I can use a broom, but in this room, I had to try something other than dragging out my full sized vacuum every single day to clean up after her.

Enter this nifty little handheld vacuum! Cordless, compact and easily hideable, I love this little thing. I can whip it out when Bee makes a mess and quickly store it away. I don't even know why I bothered with a full size vacuum in such a small place. Definitely check it out for smaller spaces!

I am so not kidding about using these almost on a weekly basis. Some of these items were pricey (okay, just the Keurig), but I've used the heck out of them because, for me, these really are necessities.

I would love to hear some of your own college household necessities! Share them in the comments below!
